F.A.Q.

1. When does "Rocket City Book Club" meet?

The meeting date is decided via our Facebook group. Usually it's on Wednesdays at 7pm CST, but the meeting date/time is flexible depending on when it is most convenient for our members.

2. How long do meetings run?

All meetings run 2 hours long. Sometimes we like to just hang out after discussing a book!

3. Where does "Rocket City Book Club" meet?

We meet online. We currently use AIM for communicating during meetings.

4. How does "Rocket City Book Club" decide on what books to read?

To expand on a few club rules:

At the end of every meeting, we vote on a book. Having more than one book for choices is recommended, but not necessary. Majority vote wins.

If the person whose book was chosen would like to host the next meeting, you are more than welcome to do so. There are many helpful links for organizing a meeting under Book Club/Reader Resources which can be found by clicking on the "Links for Book Lovers!" tab above.

5. Are specific genres read?

Every genre in fiction and non-fiction is allowed except politics and religions.  This means anything that may cause anyone to feel excluded because of their personal beliefs is not allowed. We'd like all of our members to feel comfortable and included, no matter what beliefs they hold.

6. What books have already been read and what book is being currently read?

If you look to your right of any page on our blog, you will see our "Currently Reading" and our "Past Books" goodreads bookshelf apps for our current and past reads.

7. Can anyone join?

Yes, anyone is allowed to join. Sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, beliefs, abilities, etc. do not affect membership. Unfortunately, if you are under 18, you cannot join due to the nature of some of our books.

8. Are you a serious book club? The last group I was in mostly drank wine and gossiped to have a break from family.

This is not just a club. The club leader started this group because she was new to the area and wanted to make friends with people who have similar interests. We do have fun. We hang out together outside of this club.

That being said, this is NOT a singles club or a gossip group. We are a real book club and we really do read books and discuss them during meetings. This does not mean there isn't more to come from it. Sometimes we do get off topic, but we always go back to it. Books can affect people on a very deep, personal level. It can turn discussions into something more than the book without taking the conversation away from the book.

9. Can anyone under the age of 18 years old join?

If you are under the age of 18 years old, we are afraid you cannot join due to the nature of some of our books.

10. Are books with profanity and/or sexual content read?

Yes, books may contain profanity and/or sexual content. If this makes you uncomfortable, this club may not be for you. You cannot skip a book or meeting because you don't want to read a book that makes you uncomfortable.
